Welcome to Elkhorn!

“The Elkhorn Special,” the maiden feature from Chicago’s acclaimed short-film outfit Redleg Films, moves into principal photography Fall 2025. We’ll be filming amid the vintage storefronts and cozy side streets of Berwyn, Illinois, a town seemingly tailor-made for our off-beat coming of age story. We’ve streamlined the schedule to a brisk 12-day shoot so every production dollar lands exactly where it belongs: on the screen.

Redleg’s short films, spanning action, comedy, and heartfelt drama, have earned them a reputation for character-driven storytelling, inventive world-building, and “how did they do that on their budget?” production value. The Elkhorn Special is the next step: the same indie-film ingenuity, now scaled up into a feature-length, magical-realist tale featuring mysterious strangers, invisible waitresses, and the beautifully weird people who populate a nowhere-town that could be anywhere.
